A man is facing the death penalty after being arrested and charged with selling Viagra and other drugs without a licence. Paul Smith, 42, was handed down the same week with five months of imprisonment. His wife, Mary, has been named as a mitigating factor.
A man who was arrested in 2017, was jailed until 2021, after being sentenced by Judge James P. C. G. for his part in the crime.
Sue M. H. Jones, the prosecuting team for the police, said: "Our client is a young man with a longstanding history of abuse and addiction and it was his arrest that led to this case. We were surprised at the leniency given to this individual as he faced a statutory sentence of life imprisonment.
“The fact that he was facing a statutory sentence of life imprisonment is very significant in the case of this case and is very important to the whole prosecution team as it marks the commencement of a thorough investigation into this matter."
The man was found guilty on 12 occasions. He was jailed until 2021 after being charged with selling, selling, offering and facilitating the sale of counterfeit, misbranded and expired Viagra, sildenafil and other drugs.
The police then contacted an online community service, who advised them to contact the local community for more information.
The police also contacted the national pharmaceutical and health authorities, which then advised them to contact their local crime scene and police station to report the arrest.
“They have now contacted the National Crime Investigation Group (NRIG) which has contacted the police station to inform them that the individual has died of a lethal event. This is further evidence that the individual was seeking a non-fatal, non-intercourse death sentence. This was made clear to us by our client.
"The case is being investigated as a mitigating factor and the prosecution team has made arrangements to be taken to the trial court on 21st September 2017.
"We are now concerned about the circumstances of this individual being arrested and the death penalty being handed to the defendant.
"We will be taking further steps to ensure that the individual is found guilty of this offence and that the court will then consider whether the defendant should be sentenced to death."
The case was investigated by the prosecution team.

The family of the missing man are very sorry to hear of the death of the man they are deeply saddened to learn of. It is with great sadness that I say this, but we will continue to be sorry for our partner's death."
